Typing lessons are stored in xml files with Title and Comment tags. Title definitely appears in the UI, probably Comment may appear too (I don't know). On the other hand, it's not possible to translate these Titles and Comments to multiple languages (or at least no .xml files show how to do it).

The language used currently is a complete mess: some lesson names are in English, some are in the natural language of the one the lesson teaches, and some even mix these two languages within this short string.

There are two Hungarian lessons, one of them is titled Hungarian and the other one is called Magyar, so they don't even appear right under each other in the menu. If someone finds one of them, it's not trivial for him/her to notice that there is another one available too.

Title and Comment should be converted to English and there should be a general way to translate them to any arbitrary language, either within these xml files, or via gettext, or by whatever means...

yes, you are right. This should be fixed and it is added in KTouch TODO for KDE4.

This should probably be done like KGeography does it so that in a .ktouch.xml training file the <title> tag for ex

<Title>French (auto-generated)</Title>

is extracted and then replaced with translation.

Same for Keyboard Layout in fact. The Keyboard Layouts names should be translated in the user language so the menu is in that language.

The problem is for example russing lessons are translated INSIDE the file so
they should be "untranslated"
