Version:           0.12.1 (using KDE 3.5.4, Kubuntu Package 4:3.5.4-0ubuntu2~dapper1 )

I usually edit my icons in some external app, and I resize them to 96x96. When I load them in kopete/msn, they appear slightly blurred. I guess this is due to the scaling being applied even if the icon has already the proper size.

Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained.

Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
