Description Kevin Goeser 2006-08-18 07:48:50 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.3)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages
Compiler: gcc-4.1
OS: Linux

Whenever the session restores a konqueror window with a lot of tabs (usually some folders and more kpdf instances), I get the above error message for each tab which shows a folder. The tab stays empty, but after a refresh everything is back to normal.
There are some similar bug reports, like e.g. bug #97148. But they occur on different occations. Bug #85599 sounds somehow similar, sinds the system load durng KDE startup is quite high.

I see this regulary as well, though not all the time. One annoying side effect seems to be that it basicly seems to kill my desktop: no more icons there, and RMB menus in konqueror sessions won't pop up anymore.

Same thing here, 5 desktops, 5 Konqueror instances, tabs:

rik@pu-erh:~$ for i in /home/rik/.kde/share/config/session/konqueror_*; do cat $i | grep -E "ViewT[0-9]+_URL" | wc -l; done

Happens all the time. Not that much annoying, but still a bug.

The problem will probaby go away when you run nscd on your system. This is a daemon which caches name services, such as dns.

I have also this issue.
I will test with nscd, however as this bug was not present before, for me it's a regression.

I have the same issue on KDE 3.5.5 on a freshly installed kubuntu 6.10 system. It doesn't seem to depend on the home directory at all as it happens with an old directory as well as a new one.
KDE also seems to be glacially slow on this machine althought this is a Pentium II 233 MHz with a whopping 256 megabytes of RAM.

Same issue on a kubuntu 6.10 KDE 3.5.5 System,
Thinkpad 600 E PII 366 MHz 288 MB RAM, Desktop Icons disappears and reapers i if crete a new icon. Very annying bug for a beginners system.

The bug seems to be gone
after i changed the desktop background to no picture
and clicked in System settings -> Kde Ressources -> Kontact -> resource file -> use as Standard Settings -> Apply. Dont know which one of the both actions did the
fix.

The bug is gone. When I try to change back to a background with an image, I get the error again. Nasty little bug!!
I didnt help me trying to install and run the nscd.

I want my background image back :)
