Version: 0.9.0 Beta 1 (using KDE KDE 3.4.3)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages

I'm considering switching from Apple's iPhoto to DigiKam. Now the question is, how to get my images out of iPhoto and into DigiKam. It would be extremely helpful if DigiKam would have an importer which would import the iPhoto picture library. This would also involve importing (possibly adding as exif to the images) the additional information (comments, etc) that iPhoto does not store in the images itself but internally. This task is actually not that difficult, as iPhoto provides a file called AlbumData.xml which contains all necessary information as to which images are in which album and have which comments.

Daniel,

Import must use definitivly an universal way : image metadata => XMP.

And this is not valid only for iphoto, but for all photomanagement program. It will be a waste of time to implement an import tool for all program...

Interoperability goal have been written in this paper :

http://www.metadataworkinggroup.com/pdf/mwg_guidance.pdf

So, as 0.10.0 support indeep XMP, this solve your problem ?

There is a tool here that we can probably include in digiKam...

I used iPhoto2xmp which worked well although I had to upgrade my iphoto library from iphoto 08 to iphoto 11 using the "iphoto Library upgrader tool" on OSX first.

iPhoto2xmp sound like the best way to process. I close this file.
