I am not sure what the *exact* steps to duplication are, but I can reliably produce this on my system: 

1) Open kontact, load account inbox with about 4.000 new messages (imap)
2) Filter using search box to show only messages matching [SPAM] in the header
3) Select one or more messages

As soon as I touch a message from the message list, Kmail immediately crashes. I'll attach a backtrace from the KDE crash handler, though I don't know if it will be helpful or not. 

I'm running KDE 3.5.3 on Kubuntu Linux, 2.6.15-26-386
