Sentry Crash Report:

Description Stéphane Pontier 2006-08-07 14:21:38 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.4)
Installed from: Mandriva RPMs
OS: Linux

- If I open a new console with (with any default model) and try to change to a transparency model: the transparency is not working on the model I just selected.
 - If I open a new konsole with a transparent model as default, the transparency is working.
 - If I try to open a new shell tab, even if the default model had transparency, the new tab transparency doesn't work.
 - If I open a new konsole with transparent model (here, transparency is working), exit my kde session, and login again, the konsole previously open doesn't have transparency anymore.

If I tried to edit a model, I see that the transparency is not checked, If I checked it and save the model, it saved right in the .schema file ([...]transparency 0.66 5 5 5 [...]) but not applied, moreover, if I close the konsole and open it and try to edit the model, the transparency is unchecked again while it still enable in the .schema file.

I tried to launch a konsole without using scim and launched a new konsole and transparency worked fine.
(under mandriva, I achieve it by removing the path to /usr/lib/qt3/plugins in .qt/qtrc so it wasn't loading libqscim.so
Under kubuntu, I achieve it by changing the right to the /usr/lib/qt3/plugins/inputmethods/libqscim.so file to 000, I got lot of warning about not successfully loading this lib but the transparency worked fine)

 tested on kubuntu dapper
  scim 1.4.4-1ubuntu12
  skim 1.4.4-0ubuntu7
  konsole 3.5.3-0ubuntu0.2

 and on mandriva cooker
 scim-1.4.4-9mdv2007.0
 skim-1.4.5-1mdv2007.0
 kdebase-konsole-3.5.4-2mdv2007.0
 libkdebase4-konsole-3.5.4-2mdv2007.0
(the bug was also here with previous version of konsole and scim)

first of all I thought it was related to the Bug #131856 but maybe not since Romain has problems even without loading libscim.so
Comment 1 Stéphane Pontier 2006-10-16 11:43:58 UTC
With update of KDE 3.5.5 (ubuntu dapper or mandriva cooker), there is a slight change in the description of the bug,

- Now, if I open a new konsole with transparent model, exit my kde session, and login again, the konsole previously open has now transparency.
- If I open a new shell tab _in this console_, transparency is working fine.

in other case, the behaviour is the same as described previously

tested on kubuntu dapper
scim 1.4.4-1ubuntu12
skim 1.4.4-0ubuntu7
konsole 3.5.5-0ubuntu1~dapper1

and on mandriva cooker
scim-1.4.4-9mdv2007.0@i586
skim-1.4.5-1mdv2007.0@i586
kdebase-konsole-1:3.5.5-1mdv2007.1@i586 libkdebase4-konsole-1:3.5.5-1mdv2007.1@i586

Hello,

Does this still apply under more recent versions of Konsole / SCIM? (eg. in Kubuntu Gutsy or Hardy)?
Comment 3 Stéphane Pontier 2008-05-26 10:49:47 UTC
I haven't checked for a while and it seems to be solved under gutsy with
scim 1.4.7-1ubuntu2
skim 1.4.5-2ubuntu1
konsole 4:3.5.9-0ubuntu1~gutsy1~ppa1

and in mandriva cooker with:
scim-1.4.7-10mdv2008.1@x86_64
skim-1.4.5-4mdv2008.1@x86_64
kdebase-konsole-3.5.9-42mdv2009.0@x86_64
