Currently there is no easy way (drag&drop would be good) to rearrange contacts in metacontact.

I would like to change the order of ALL contacts via drag&drop. how can the sorting for online- and offline contacts and the alphabetical order be disabled? I want certain contacts on fixed positions, independent of their online-status so that they could be found instantly. Why always search for them when they jumped around?? They should be ordered absolutely freely - groups don´t work for me - inside the groups contacts are ordered alphabetical again.

Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained.

Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
