Most times when I open (expand) en folder in the File Tree, the application freezes, going to 100% CPU usage. Not every time, but quite often.

It turns out that this problem only occurs with the Subversion plug-in enabled.

Which means it's related to the SVN plugin attempting to sync with the repository.
