Description Antonio E. 2006-06-28 14:58:07 UTC
Version: 0.9-svn (using KDE KDE 3.5.3)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc-4.1.1
OS: Linux

It would be nice to have a way to browse the tags using a cloud like in flickr, using bigger fonts for tags with more photos.

Another alternative could be to display the number of pictures
At least it would be interesting to display the numbers of pictures using a tag next to the tag name in the My Tags panel.

But anyway, my suggestion goes to implement some kind of way to know which tags are more important (considering the importance as the number of pictures).

Julien,

Where we can show this tags view? Where is the tags hierarchy in this view. It can be confuse no ?

If we use a new tab in Comments & Tags side bar (try the current implementation from svn to see what i mean), how we can name this tab ?

;-). Well, instead I'll give you a link with a real example (this is taken from my photo stream): http://flickr.com/photos/webpacifica/tags/

There, you can see all the tags that I'm using in my photo collection. As you see the size of the font is calculated in a way to highlight those tags that contains more pictures, in a proportional way.

It's only a fast way of knowing which tags are more used, which can be of course cool to manage a big collection.

But as I said, an easier alternative like just printing the number of images using a tag placed next to each tag, and a way to sort the tags by name and by the number of assigned pictures would work too. It could be that this way could be integrated more easily in the existing tag panel.

But any of those two solutions could help to manage the tags.

That is a nice toy - and this is it: toy. For real work (when you get
money directly or indirectly for photo management) structure/hierarchy
of tags is indispensable.

There really should be a general tag cloud possiblity. At least for KDE4. Tags are also needed in amarok, Ocular and other programs. This should be something sexy with eye-candy. There is some code for it already on kde-apps.org for amarok - but it is just done with python-tk (http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php/AmarokCloud?content=51865).

Andi, Marcel, Mik, Arnd...

Flickr tags view is fun, but personally it's a gadget for me. It require to implement new code and break others one. Also, this view break tags hierarchy model/view.

Since we have a counts of items in tgas folder view, this solve a little bit the problem ?

Personnaly, i will never implement Flickr view, but perhaps improve current one. The thread is open... i hear you

+1 for WONTFIX from me.

+1 for WONTFIX from me too.

Although it might be able to implement as a plasmoid (like in amarok)... but I don't think this is really helpful anyway...
