I am referring here to the option "mark as read after...". 

Example -- I have unread message which I want to move somewhere, my timeout is 5 seconds. I am on another, read, mail. Now, I select the given message, not immediately, but after 2 seconds I choose option for mail move -- the dialog shows up, I wait another 3 seconds, and my mail (this one) turn to unread.

So, count only "pure" reading time.

Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented.
