Note: not only Kopete crashes, also whole kde. It prompts me to the kdm login. the solution is to disable composite. It's not our fault the X server crashes with an unstable extension and options enabled. I have the same problem. It seems the notification window creation is the crash source. It is probably doing things that are not yet well supported by composite extension. If you have any idea where it may come from I am interested to know what should be corrected. Thanks. I know that the problem might be within the composite option, but never the less. The fact that the only crashes that I've had because of the composite extention is when I try to open the message dialog, might give a clue to the people working on the composite extention, so the people developing kopete might send the calls given on opening the dialog to the people working on the composite :-) Just a suggestion. On the other hand. As Vista comes out, it would be nice if Linux could follow on the polish thing. So kopete developers might look into what they could do different so it does no longer crash X. Other than that, kopete rocks!! It is really fantastic thanks *SOLUTION* If you are using NVIDIA propiertary drivers, you could solve the problem adding to your DEVICE SECTION on XORG.CONF the next line: Option "UseCompositeWrapper" "true" Great!!!! |
