I can confirm this bug. I've installed the Ubuntu Packages of KDE 3.5.4. But I don't get the bug for 'local printers'. I can only confirm thr bug for 'SMB printer ressources'. Thomas, Frank, please state the version of Samba you are using. (The smb:// backend used by CUPS is a symlink to the Samba "smbspool" utility -- so the smb:// backend in reality is provided by the Samba package). Is this problem still there with KDE 3.5.5 and the latest Samba version 3.0.23d? I'm sorry, I can't test/verify myself this bug right now due to certain physical restrictions... Cheers, Kurt For me the problem still exists. I'm using KDE 3.5.5 (ubuntu package). The version number of the package 'smbclient' is 3.0.22-1ubuntu4. I can't believe the samba is the problem of this bug. As Thomas noted everything works fine if you are able to pass the configuration dialog (by creating a new printer). The only annoying problem is that you can't change the interface only for an existing printer. In this case the configuration dialog doesn't work properly. Ah, OK. May be a KDEPrint bug then. Or CUPS. But I can't currently test this myself. Please ping me end of this month or beginning of February should you not hear anything new. Can you do a few steps of debugging this yourself? Can you see what command the KDE Add Printer Wizard executes when you try to change the backend? Does it prompt you for username/password? Please quote the printers.conf section for the exisiting printer (obfuscate any sensitive information). Is this an Active Directory domain? Does this (change of smb:// backend) work with CUPS on the commandline? To test, for an existing printer that is connencted with via SMB, find its device URI like this: lpstat -v printername It should return s.th. like this: Device for printername: smb://oldwindowsbox/oldprintersharename Now run this commandline to change the backend: lpadmin -p printername -v smb://newwindowsbox/newprintersharename Can you print to the new address now? Well, first let me say, that I'm not administrating this network / printer. I'm only using it. :) Changing the address via command line seems to work (according to lpstat). Of course I can't test printing after the change, because I can't change the real address of the printer. It's not an Active Directory domain. You asked for the command the KDE Add Printer Wizard executes. Well, how can I see? (hope this question isn't too silly) Perhaps a more detailed description/demonstration of the bug helps: After clicking on 'Ändern...' ('Change...'): http://home.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/~frigge/kram/kdeprint1.jpg 'Weiter...' ('Next...'): http://home.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/~frigge/kram/kdeprint2.jpg 'Weiter...' ('Next...'): http://home.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/~frigge/kram/kdeprint3.jpg 'Abschließen...' ('Finish...') The assistant should not go further, but...: http://home.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/~frigge/kram/kdeprint4.jpg After a few times clicking again on 'Next...': http://home.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/~frigge/kram/kdeprint5.jpg The error message says something like: 'Required page not found'. All I can do is clicking on 'Ok' and than on 'Abort'. No changes are saved. KDEPrint is obsolete, unmaintained and will never be revived. Closing all open bugs. |
