Looks like a bug in your SMTP server... How would that explain the fact that the same mails are sent properly with sylpheed? As I said, I think this might be about the message header. If so, could you please help me pinpoint the bit in the header put there by KMail that's rejected by the server? Thus I would have something concrete to complain my ISP about. The fact that there may be slight differences in the message. Can you attach (zipped) any message that KMail cannot get through, as saved in the Outbox folder? Created attachment 15902 [details]
Failed message from Outbox
There's a failed message ^ I tried again with several messages, of which many got through, but those with a specific attachment file didn't. Attaching a certain jpg image compressed as .tar.bz2 produced failure on all occasions. The same image as plain .jpg file didn't cause any trouble. All test mails were gpg signed, even those that were sent properly. That invalidates my initial guess that signing is a definite factor, although based on previous experience some messages (long ones?) are not send when signed. I sent the email message through my mail server and it accepted it just fine. You're right, most probably the fault is in my ISP. I'll give them a call and mark this bug as resolved. Thank you for your time! I'd like this to be reopened. There is definitely something wrong with KMail's ability to contact the servers I use - or with something that KMail depends on. Sending mail through either my ISP's auth or non-auth server, independent of encryption settings, fails with this message: Sending failed: Could not connect to host <my.isp's.smtp.host>. So now it's not only about message content anymore, but making contact in the first place. Telnet also fails to contact the correct server + port. The reason I'm writing about this again is, that sending with sylpheed still works without problems. Where could I begin to search for a common denominator to KMail and telnet failing, but sylpheed succeeding? That's a completely different issue. Please open a new report. Das folgende Transportprotokoll wurde benutzt: Jörg Kuhlmann" The point is, that I don't use gpg, I DON'T HAVE AN ATTACHEMENT IN THE MAIL I SEND! After clicking ok, nothing happens, kmail doesn't crash, but refuses to let me open the message I tried to send. By the way: the progress bar shows 90% of the job to be done. Anybody's got an idea? Thanks in advance, jk |
