I actually agree with this. Looks like I currently have 1535 unread articles, but it doesn't show up clearly. Imho we should watch and see what kind of systemtray we're going to have in KDE4 and decide what to do with this. > Looks like I currently have 1535 unread articles
Which shows that the unread counter in its current form is completely useless for people having more than only a few feeds.

I also have often several hundred unread messages but if it's under 1000 I still can see the number because smaller font size than the default is. r Triaged. Tried to test on r887704 but I can't tested this since I do not have a functional system tray. Hum I agree with Maciej's suggestion in comment #4. What is important is _if_ there are new messages, not how many. Users will open the app when they have a new message, not when they have x>=n new messages. when i expect more stuff to come in i wait for x>=n :) well i would like to have another background colour for system tray :) @muh2000: why did you remove all the CC addresses from the bug? Please do not do that. I suggest that you now email the CC'ed users and ask if they would like to be readded to this bug. Can anyone tell if this bug still present? If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of akregator (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.08 or later), it gets closed in about three months. Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.0 aka 15.08), please open a new one unless it already exists.
