I have just spent quite some time trying to understand why I was locked in "Search only" mode... I was trying to remove the following string: "$CST/" from a list of files, and I thought I could leave the "replace with" field empty to do that. I finally found out that it is not possible to active the "Search/replace" mode as long as the "replace with" field is empty. Putting a space there worked (as soon as I understood I had to backslash the "$" !), but it is not exactly what I was trying to achieve.

I see no good usability argument to keep the current behavior, and I believe it should be changed. There are other ways to only search for strings whithout replacing them, it that's what the user wants.

Also I don´t think it´s hard to implement. Maybe a question boy should open to prevent this action to be made by mistake (forgot to enter the replace string)

Mee too, everytime I wanted to use kfilereplace, I wanted to replace with an empty string. It is useless for me in it's current state.

Patch for bug #124626

Here's a patch for this.

There's a possible problem with the patch in that there's no way to ask the app to use search-only mode, but I don't really see the point since one could just click Search Later and then click Simulate.

If that's a problem, a check box could be added for it.
