What game were you playing? Could you see if you can make it reproduceable? (Get a screenshot if you can.) The game was Klondike, and regrettably I've not been able to either reproduce the problem nor was I able to get a screenshot on the computer that kpat's output was forwarded to; that is, the game was running on one machine and its GUI info was being forwarded through SSH (I had enabled ForwardX11 in /etc/ssh/ssh_config), to another machine over a wireless network. May be that this is a one-time thing- wish I'd taken down more info. This does not seem to be network related.
