Description tmeedend 2006-03-22 03:24:36 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.1)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages
OS: Linux

I think it will be great if the thumbnails are created with a random image of the movie and not the first, or at least with an image of the begining of the movie, but not the first because, most of time, it is a black image. Anyway, i find that the yellow icon on every video thumb is not very nice. Sorry for my bad english, thank you !

A random frame would be best, because most of the time videos begin with uninteresting stock notices such as "20th Century Fox".
Comment 2 Matthias Loitsch 2006-09-18 17:11:06 UTC
I agree!
But I don't think that a random frame is the best way to go...
I would propose to use the frame at position 15%.

Additionally, a good feature would be: If the frame is black, take another one. But I don't know if this would be too hard to implement.

I agree a fixed position with emptiness threshold would be better than randomizing. Position 50% maybe?

Comment 5 Tristan Miller 2007-06-23 17:17:18 UTC
I agree; 50% seems most appropriate. 15% will still get uninteresting frames (opening credits, etc.) in very short videos.

Dolphin in 4.x appears to select a random frame, and this frame changes every time the cursor moves over the file again
Comment 9 Lubos Lunak 2009-05-27 19:15:57 UTC
Then this is solved, according to the previous comment.
