A random frame would be best, because most of the time videos begin with uninteresting stock notices such as "20th Century Fox". I agree! But I don't think that a random frame is the best way to go... I would propose to use the frame at position 15%. Additionally, a good feature would be: If the frame is black, take another one. But I don't know if this would be too hard to implement. I agree a fixed position with emptiness threshold would be better than randomizing.
