Why? Because nowadays the PC speaker has no good purpose except in situations in which decent soundcard output is impossible. knotify is enough. So what you really mean is that the beep feature should be changed to use knotify and not the PC speaker? No. Currently there are two ways of notification in KMail - Beep and knotify's. What I'm saying is that the Beep should be ditched. Since it seems that I don't express my thoughts correctly, please see the "New Mail Notification" groupbox in the "Accounts" section in KMail's main configuration dialog. - The feature that I call "beep" is toggled by the "beep" checkbox there. - The feature that I call "knotify's" is configured by clicking the "Other Actions" there. I assume the "beep" checkbox is there as a quick access to the "most commonly used" notification action, but I'll leave it to the developers to comment. I observe that "beep" just produces a short sound via the small PC speaker that's in the PC case. knotify doesn't even have this as an option, so I think that "beep" does not correspond to "most commonly used" notification action. Don't see why an optional feature shall be removed |
