1. after I gave my password to start one of the package management apps they respond I must be root.
2. The "remember password" check box does not work, I'm asked for the pw again anytime I open the program, even after a few minutes.

This does not occur predictable -- sometimes it works, sometimes not.
But I'm sure my memory (RAM) is ok.

Are you still seeing this problem with a more recent version of KDE?

Nein.  Jetzt habe ich Kubuntu 7.10 und da scheint das zu gehen.
