You referring to this? ...that pressing the Ctrl and Alt keys while selecting text will let Konsole select columns? Yes - great hidden secrets BTW in kate it is "Ctl-Shift-B" which switches to block selection mode. Should we consider changing or adding an additional shortcut key to have the 2 apps use the same shortcut? This would make it easier for our users. yes and please add it to the edit menu. or to the documentation / help !! Missing documentation is a bug, not a wishlist entry. Robert, if you like, you can assign documentation bugs to the docs product (and for this one, the "missing content" component). But if you prefer to keep the bug filed against konsole, that's fine too :-) Block selection is broken in KDE 4. The selection is drawn correctly but copying/selecting and pasting does not work. Hence this becomes a bug in Konsole as well as a documentation issue. Block selection now works as before in KDE 4. There is a section in the Handbook under Mouse Buttons which detail selecting a column of text. Perhaps I should add a chapter 'How to...'? It appears that the block selection doesn't work in KDE 4.1.4 nor svn trunk. it works well in 4.2.1 IMHO 'How to...' or "Tips and Tricks" would be helpful The key strokes to handle block selection are in the help docs.
