Version:           1.89ubuntu6 (using KDE KDE 3.5.1)

I have used the dpkg --set-selections command to permanently keep certain custom-compiled versions of a number of packages.

These packages are seen as upgradeable by adept, which informs "There are N updated packages available" in tooltip. It also displays the red alert icon.

However, it will not actually upgrade them (and neither should it).

Indeed important. In synaptic you can set this hold-status also. This is very important when you compiled a cvs version yourself and packaged it with checkinstall. Has my support.

Another +1. This bug is annoying and overall decreases the usability of adept by notifying upgrade for packages which are on hold.

Adept has been in the unmaintained state for a few years.  Use muon[1] as replacement .
