I would like to use AMSMath in the latex-plugin because latex is kind of useless to me without AMSMath. Maybe an option to turn the use of amslatex on or off would be nice (so that one doesn't need the AMS thing to use the plugin)

See line 134 of $KDEDIR/bin/kopete_latexconvert.sh . If you add \usepackage{amsmath} there, does it provide the facilities you need?

Yes, thanks. But it's kind of annoying if you have to tell the one you want to communicate with "just go to $KDEDIR/bin/kopete_latexconvert.sh and add a line to that script, then you will be able to read my messages"

Apply in kopete/plugins/latex (patch against 0.12 branch, but I guess it'll
work anywhere.

Is there a reason why this patch wasn't applied?
Anyway, the bug status probably should be changed...
