Just like if you switch between points and/or lines the legend updates appropriatly, I think that if the curve has error bars, they to should be shown on the legend (as it is an identifying feature).

I don't think I agree. The legend is used to show the attributes of a curve (weight, point style, line style, color, bargraph setting) - i.e. all those properties set in the Currve appearance widget). 

Whether or not error bars are shown is not an attribute of the curve.
