It would be quite useful to have a nick-completion in the query tab, as it's not so uncommon to do something involving the other user - slapping them, for example.

maybe completion could even work with nicks in commonly joined channels, so you can talk about people

This is on my todo list - I'm going to enable completion in queries either for all channels you share with the user you're chatting with, or even for all channels you have joined on the server. I will also extend it to channel names. This won't make the next release, but there's a good chance I'll get it into 0.20.
