Description Ben Smith 2006-01-07 23:05:10 UTC
Version: 0.9.1a (using KDE KDE 3.4.0)
Installed from: Unspecified
OS: Linux

Kmplayer is great for viewing embedded video in webpages. But many media sites using Real codecs make use of a feature called "callbacks" (description here: http://www.emediacommunications.biz/sm2/). Ifilm.com is a prominent example of this usage.

Basically, the media player must be able to support opening webpages and possibly executing other functions from within the Real stream. Real/Helix Players support this feature. Xine and Mplayer don't appear to, and may not ever due to the complexities/risks involved.

And, while there is a Helix browser plugin, it officially supports Mozilla only and crashes frequently in Konqueror. So there is currently no option to view embedded video from such sites using Realmedia in Konqueror.

I have no idea how difficult this would be to implement, especially with the proprietary Real player, but perhaps you might consider it.

(Adding George to CC for nspluginviewer)

Thanks for your info. Executing the javascript and/or url commands is not a problem, only how to get these out of the stream. I've tried the first example on your first link, but mplayer outputs nothing and xine doesn't play this link.
It's too bad the helix plugin is so crashy, maybe George can fill that in.

This project is unfortunately no longer maintained.

If a new maintainer wants to step up and take care, the project is archived here:

https://invent.kde.org/multimedia/kmplayer

You can just clone it in your private namespace on invent.kde.org and if you have started to work on it and fixed/implemented something get it reviewed and the project unarchived.

Sorry for the inconveniences.
