Version:            (using KDE KDE 3.5.0)
Installed from:    Compiled From Sources

Add Ctrl+Shift+N to Session > New Shell and New Session (contextual menu popup).
This way, it's easier to learn the shortcut.

It is not nearly as simple/easy as this.  What happens when the user changes the short for 'New Shell'?

Fixed in KDE 4.  TODO for KDE 3 series, a separate bug report can be opened for that.
