For example, "Play DVD with Kaffeine" from media:/ works, but not "Play DVD with Kaffeine" from system:/media does not work.

Or maybe Kaffeine can't deal with the URL "system:/media" as it deals with "media:/"? But so, why Konqueror can? Shouldn't it be independent of the application?

Well, it should be implemented on Kaffeine side currently.
I guess we'll be able to come with something better in the framework for KDE4.

I'm closing this bug because kaffeine can deal with both "system:/media" and "media:/" urls now ...
