Description Dik Takken 2005-12-15 11:30:18 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.0)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux

HAL can send-out notifications when a printer is plugged in and provide vendor/model information about the new printer. Future versions may even notify you about newly available network printers.

It would be great if KDEPrint could pickup such notifications and show a simple "Add Printer" wizard. This wizard can be much simpler than the current procedure for adding printers in KDE, because HAL will provide most information that is required to set it up.

When the new printer is un-plugged again, KDEPrint could even ask the user if the printer configuration should be removed from the list or keep it. Then you can take your laptop anywhere, plug in any printer that is locally available, without ending up having dozens of printers installed.

I think this is more of a mediamanager issue first.

Moving to kdeprint in case someone can handle it there.

KDEPrint is obsolete, unmaintained and will never be revived. Closing all open bugs.
