Description Alex 2005-12-15 04:28:55 UTC
Version: 2.2 (using KDE 3.2.3, Mandrake Linux Cooker i586 - Cooker)
Compiler: gcc version 3.4.1 (Mandrakelinux 10.1 3.4.1-4mdk)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.8.1-12mdk

Along with not being able to format, I also cannot access my floppy disk. I was able to do it for a minute, then with no prevail after that. I have tried formatting the disk, but it can't even format. I tried many other floppy disks, but with no luck with that, either. I tried changing the mount types, but that didn't work either. I need help quick! PLEASE!

This is not a help forum. This is a bug reporting site.

Have you tried the following:
- verifying that /dev/fd0h1440 exists?
- verifying that it isn't named /dev/fd0u1440?
- using setfdprm?
- upgrading KDE 3.5?

KFloppy in KDE 3.2.x is broken.

There is a work-around in two steps:
- "full format" the disk
- "quick format" the disk

(The problem is that "full format" does not do the part done by "quick format", unlike what is needed.)

Otherwise, KFloppy (including this problem) was fixed in later KDE versions (in parts: KDE 3.3.1, KDE 3.4 and KDE 3.5).

Have a nice day!
