this is a window manager issue. kicker already publishes the exact geometry it needs and no more. I'm not sure I understand the problem. Why don't you set the window to stay always on top or force its geometry in its window-specific settings? Created attachment 13637 [details]

This is how gkrellm appears if I set it to be on top of all windows. You can
see that it overlaps with other windows behind it.

This is what I need and how it used to work in KDE 3.2. Note that the panel
above gkrellm is panel to embedd apps. The panel's length is set to 2%.
