Description Tristan Miller 2005-11-15 20:52:47 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.3)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

In the Control Center under KDE Components->File Associations, users are given a tree view of MIME content-types and a search box for filename patterns. Please also add an alternate view where the primary sorting key is the application (program). This way, I can click on, say, "gimp", and instantly see a list of all file types which Gimp can open. Those file types for which Gimp is the default application could be listed in bold. I should be able to select any file type in this list and use a button or context menu to set or unset Gimp as the default application for that type. I should also be able to add and remove file types from the list.

Note that some of this functionality is already included in the "Properties for [application]" dialog that pops up when one clicks on "Edit" in the "Application Preference Order" pane. What is missing primarily is the sort-by-application instead of sort-by-mime-type view, and listing file types in bold when an application opens them by default.
