Description Eric Thibodeau 2005-11-07 23:59:27 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.3)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux

I have a specific user for which the keyboard just 'freezes' when she logs onto her account. For example, pressing NumLock doesn't change the LED's state and any other keyboard input (including CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE) are ignored. We are forced to logout using the mouse.

I know the keyboard works since I use it in my KDE session without any problems on the same machine. I tried copying over my /.kde/share/config/kxkbrc file to the faulty user with no success.

We both use kxkb (with icon in taskbar) to switch between CA_enhanced and US keyboard. Togglinhg the state with the mouse does not revive the keyboard.

The same user has keyboard functionnality with another WM...ie: BlackBox.

1- I don't know where to go from here to fix this issue...
2- This _is_ a bug since there is total loss of functionnality and absolutely no warning about something that could be wrong.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Upon further investigating, it was noticed that the session acted as if the CTRL key was continuously pressed. Problem "disappeared" after going into the KDE Control Center and:

1- Disabling "Use slow keys" in "Accessibility".
2- Keyboard repeat rate delay was changed from 660ms to 250ms
