Hi,

if you use smb:/ in tree view mode and expand an item the sub items are inserted as top level and not as child items. Other slaves (settings, system, remote, ...) had the same bug and were fixed some months ago.

Cheers,
André

I can confirm this still happens in konqueror on my machine with kde-3.5.2.

On a related note, going to smb:/ lets you browse available workgroups. You can descend into workgroups, then to a specific host.

However it is not possible to go back 'up' a level from either smb://workgroup, or smb://host
(one may go 'back' but that is not necessarily the same us 'up' )

It seems that this may be closely related to the glitch with the tree view.

I have seen this too.

WORKAROUND:
The only way to make it intuitive is to click on the machine name and the tree reparents for the machine.
You can then open a tree as normal.
This means a <back takes you to the workgroup/domain

Thanks.
Graham.

Sorry: I'm using 3.5.5 fedora RPM

Is this still valid for KDE 4.5 / 4.6 ?

Still reproducible in 4.8.80.

This issue seems to be partially solved in KDE 4.9.97, but not quite. It still occurs for first-level children.

That is, when you are in smb://YOURWORKGROUP and then click on the arrow to the right of each listed computer, the first level of directories on this computer is still displayed on the same level as the computer itself. Sub directories of these folder are, however, displayed correctly in a tree view.

In 4.9.0 I have _everything_ as first level nodes again. Strange.
Expanding folders is only working correctly under smb://$nodename, but not under smb:// and also not under smb://$workgroupname
