it would be really useful if you could switch between showing the intersection of the selected tags in the tag filters, and their union.

You can use the advanced search function for this in version 0.8.

i know it's possible to use the advanced search. i was talking about a simpler search using the tag filters only.

We feel the advanced search is the way to do this. The gui will be to confusing to add this (if even sanely possible) in th right tag filter part. Advanced search is designed for this.
