It should be noted that Kiten simply uses EDICT formatted dictionaries. Any of the dictionaries on http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/j_edict.html in EDICT format should work in it. Unfortunately, I don't see a specific French dictionary in the proper format. This is probably because french has been folded into the jmdict project. For a temporary solution, you may want to look at the jmdict -> edict converter (which I believe is linked to somewhere on the above site)

Longer term, current development on Kiten is primarly focused on making it easy to add other dictionary formats. The next version of kiten (kde3 is feature frozen) will almost certainly have support for JMDict, among others.

Once again, for french in particular... apparently this site used to have an EDICT formatted French-Japanese dictionary. http://dico.fj.free.fr/index.php

I dont know any French at all, but that site did have such a dictionary at one point.

I think, it would be good to ship French and other languages with Kiten (as for me, I'm interested in a Japanese-Russian dictionary in Kiten).
