Version:           1.8 (using KDE 3.4.0, Debian Package 4:3.4.0-0ubuntu3.1 (3.1))
Compiler:          gcc version 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-8ubuntu2)
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.10

The background filling of the message frame should fill the entire frame.  Even if there is unused space.  Now the alternating highlighting just stops after the last column and the space right of that column is left white.

In the screenshot you can see that the left of the message list gets a
background, but the right (without any columns) is left blank.

Seems to be fixed in KDE 4.3 - I simply cannot create that free space
