IRC is not kopete specific. If people need help with something kopete related, i would hope they're smart enough to check the kopete website where we tell you where you can get help about kopete. You should be annoyed at the users that show up in the largest channel and ask for help rather than their client. Also, how would you choose sensible defaults here? sensible for me would be a server in the US since it's closest. sensible for somebody in europe would be a european server. sensible for somebody else on another network may be completely different. perhaps if you submit a patch with some "sensible" defaults, we can talk more. Sure, the world would be a better place if everyone was "smart enough", here are examples as fresh as today: --> twilightelliot (twilightel@c-24-19-40-120.hsd1.wa.comcast.net) has joined channel #opers twilightelliot I'm using Kopete twilightelliot KOPETE <-- twilightelliot (twilightel@c-24-19-40-120.hsd1.wa.comcast.net) has left channel #opers (Kopete 0.10 : http://kopete.kde.org). --> Tag86 (Francesco@ppp-155-224.98-62.inwind.it) has joined channel #opers Tag86 wii <-- Tag86 (Francesco@ppp-155-224.98-62.inwind.it) has left channel #opers (Kopete 0.9.0 : http://kopete.kde.org). --> BrokenBrain (fuckyou@adsl-69-231-20-79.dsl.irvnca.pacbell.net) has joined channel #opers BrokenBrain hello <-- BrokenBrain (fuckyou@adsl-69-231-20-79.dsl.irvnca.pacbell.net) has left channel #opers (Kopete 0.9.0 : http://kopete.kde.org). --> sweet_aja (operator_s@219.83.4.45) has joined channel #opers sweet_aja alow sweet_aja hi sweet_aja malam sweet_aja hiiiiiiiiiiiiiii sweet_aja yuuhuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu sweet_aja hehehehehehhe <-- sweet_aja (operator_s@219.83.4.45) has left channel #opers (Kopete 0.9.0 : http://kopete.kde.org). <djdk> Stupid Kopete-users. --> maxgazebo (filippo77@d81-211-246-22.cust.tele2.it) has joined channel #opers maxgazebo ciao a tutti <-- maxgazebo (filippo77@d81-211-246-22.cust.tele2.it) has left channel #opers (Kopete 0.10 : http://kopete.kde.org). You get the idea. The problem is that most people just want to try out the IRC support in kopete, so they use the wizard, they have no clue of what server to use so they leave the first entry (ARCNet), they search for channels, pick up one with enough users and join. Which is why I am suggesting to put a default *relevant* IRC server for new users, this isn't something new. Most IRC client supply a default server and default channel. My suggestion would be: server: irc.freenode.net channel: #kopete ok, now your request makes a lot more sense. Thanks for the explanation. |
