Every time I start kmail (kontact) the imap password dialog pops up 4 times
even if I have pressed "Cancel" the very first time.

Could yo please provide some more information, if this is still a problem with the current KMail version?  How many IMAP receiving accounts do you have configured?

Yes it is still the same with kmail as of KDE 3.5.5.
I have configured one IMAP account.

Hmm, I wonder why it takes over 16 months to get a reaction on a bug report
and why should I bother next time :-(
