Here to, same problem: if I go to smb:/ , I receive this error: "Unable to find any workgroups in your local network. This might be caused by an enabled firewall." If I go to smb:/principe (principe is my hostname) I enter successfully. I use KDE SVN updated this night (21th Semptember 2005). #1: well, it says what it means: it can't find work groups because there are none to be found. This doesn't mean, there are no hostnames available. I can't help you here - it's the broken way the smb protocol works. I'm having the same problem: openSUSE 10.3 KDE 3.5.8 installed from SUSE rpm's I have 1 network server running SAMBA (synology disk station) I have 1 laptop running SUSE 10.3 My firewall is off! When I use "smb:/" in konqueror or krusader, I get nothing. No listing, no error. When I use "smb:/orka" (name of the Synology disk station) I get the share listing. When I use "smbtree", after entering the correct password, my network is displayed correctly, with all hosts and shares. To me, this proves my SAMBA config is working correctly ! I've traced the communication with "Wireshark". I noticed the following things when trying to browse with "smb:/" : - my Synology disk station is running as Local Master Browser - my laptop tries to authenticate with the logged on Linux user! This fails! - In "KDE control center" > "Internet & Network" > "local network browsing" you can configure a the username and password to use on the network. But changing this does not alter anything for the SAMBA network browsing. The kio_smb slave keeps on using the linux user and a wrong password... I think the problem is that my 'Local Master Browser' does not allow to browse the network without authentication and the kio_smb slave uses the wrong authentication KDE 3 is no longer maintained. Feel free to reopen the ticket if the problem is still applicable in the current stable KDE 4 version. Thank you for your report. |
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.1) Installed from: Debian stable Packages OS: Linux I am running Kubuntu and upgraded to KDE 3.4.1 using packages suggested on the kubuntu home page. To display windows shares on my home network I used to -type smb:/ in the address bar - click on samba shares and hey presto a browesable list of computers. Since my upgrade I cannot view samba shares in this way. I can access shares on my network by typing smb://kristianroom {which is the machine name} Anyone else with this problem
