Sometimes I want to skip the first few pages of a document, e.g. cover and content of a manual or something similar.
For this situation, I have to have a look at the total page-number, in order to give a range, e.g. 4-20.
It would be very convenient, if one could just state 4+ meaning, print everything from page 4 on.

Maybe the same thing could be useful in the other direction as well, i.e. -4 meaning, print everything till page 4 (including).

The problem is that for non-paged applications (like konqueror for example), the number of pages is not known a-priori and is only determined at run-time when print data are generated. What you suggest is not impossible, but it means that some print options should be processed *after* print data have been generated, which is not the case for the moment.

You are right for websites, yet, at least at the moment, in those cases the user does not know how many pages there will be anyway, so one would not use the 4+ anyway. For wordprocessing or PDFs the page number is known before one prints and thus does not cause these problems.

It would be nice though, if the page number would be estimated before opening the printing-dialogue. Yet this is not necessary for this wish, as it only applies to documents with a know page number.

In fact this option would also be useful for the "current" option. If implemented, one could look through a PDF and then print "current" +3. There would be no need to know the current page number in order to use range: from-to.

This would probably be best supported by allowing "4-" and "-4" in the Print Range with KDEPrint then filling in the missing part of the range using the preset min and max to get "4-20" and "1-4".  I believe this is how windows does it.

Anyway, KDEPrint in KDE3 is unmaintained and will have no more new features
implemented.  This request will never be implemented in KDEPrint as a result.  

In KDE4 we use the Qt Print Dialog which does not support advanced Page Ranges, a feature request has been made to Qt for this to be added.
