Sentry Crash Report:

Description James Cornell 2005-05-19 17:36:16 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.0)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources
Compiler: gcc 3.3.5-20050130 Gentoo 3.3.5-20050130-r1 Sparc64 SMP
OS: Linux

This backtrace appears to be of no use.
This is probably because your packages are built in a way which prevents creation of proper backtraces, or the stack frame was seriously corrupted in the crash.

Kicker crashes on startup and relaunch on Gentoo 2005.0 with 2.4.30 kernel on Sparc64 workstation with GCC 3.3.5 and source built Kde 3.4.0. Reproduced via reinitialization/running of the 'kicker' program. Default settings no plugins loaded. The kicker bar partially loads and shows the default metallic skin but doesn't have buttons and then crashes, spits out the above with gdb through the k trace program.

you're going to have to provide more information. as it stands this report contains no information to even identify the problem.

please attach your `kde-config --localprefix`/share/config/kickerrc and try removing things from one it one item (Applet and Button sections) at a time until it stops crashing. thank you.
Comment 2 James Cornell 2005-05-25 22:34:56 UTC
[bugs.kde.org quoted mail]
When I look at the local user's kickerrc it only has information about
layout, changes, and updates, all on one line. Don't see applets.

update_info=kickerrc.upd:kde_3_1_sizeChanges,kickerrc.upd:kde_3_4_reverseLayout

Comment 3 Aaron J. Seigo 2005-05-25 23:33:45 UTC
see if `ldd `which kicker`` shows any wrong linkages. see if you have any old KDE install remnants (e.g. old applets or what-have-you) around.

otherwise, please rebuild kicker with debugging symbols and post a backtrace.

Everything via RPM on a SUSE system

Kicker has crashed on my updated 9.3 system twice. It started working again after I uninstalled some software (installed via Yast, no dependencies identified...) and reinstalled kdebase - none of which might have been relevant, of course

I installed some software last night, rebooted this morning - got the following

(no debugging symbols found)
Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/libthread_db.so.1".
