Since Yesterday a friend called me to tell me he was unable to connect to MSN anymore, I made some tests and I'm also unable. I searched the web and found this http://www.kde-forum.org/thread.php?threadid=11478

I've also been having problems logging into my MSN account for the last couple of days. I don't see this as a duplicate of previous bug as indicated above, but a new problem possibly causes by a change to MSN.

Symptoms are that Kopete continually reports The password was wrong even when it isn't. My MSN account still works from windows :-( I wouldn't use it as my IM of choice, however everyone else seems to so forced into it...

Anyone else having similar problems?

I would like to add for about 2 days now I have also been completely unable to log in to MSN using kopete, while GAIM and the windows MSN client connect just fine. Kopete simply claims that the password is wrong over and over again, when it is definitely not wrong.

I definitely feel that marking this bug as a dupe of 105920 is a mistake, as that bug is proposing a potential workaround, while this one is addressing the problem itself.

I am seeing the bug on Gentoo + KDE 3.4. I know of two other people who are also experiencing this bug on similar platforms. We have all been forced to switch to GAIM for the time being.

As of today I can no longer use MSN. I tried a Windows machine on which MSN Messenger hasn't been used for a while, and it says I'm using an old version so can't connect until I've downloaded a new one. Clearly something has changed on the MSN servers.

The right duplicate is Bug 105929

Hello everyone... I am new in my SUSE 9.3, and I have KDE 3.4.0 level b (I don't know what it does mean... ) and I have been trying to connect with my MSN account with Kopete. It prompts my password again and again as it was wrong, but it isn't... I have taken a look around on the web and seems that MSN has changed its server settings... So is there an updated version of Kopete? Or is there an another program that I can use?

Thanks a lot
G

if you are able to update via the SUSE YaST online update (YOU) service,
there should be an update available that will allow you to connect. MSN
changed their protocol after 0.10.0 was released which is why you're
having problems connecting to MSN.
