Description Michaël Larouche 2005-05-15 01:32:30 UTC
Version: 0.10.90 (using KDE 3.4.0, Gentoo)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.4 20040623 (Gentoo Linux 3.3.4-r1, ssp-3.3.2-2, pie-8.7.6)
OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.11-gentoo-r6

The current IRC Edit Account widget doesn't validate if the user has entered the required fields to connect to a IRC server.

Required fields:
-Nickname
-Real name

Currently the widget only check if a nickname is entered. But real name is really required to identify on a IRC server.

When a user didn't enter a real name, the IRC protocol is not able to connect to server successfully.

Real name should not be required if you have set up your login account
correctly. Else it means you filled your system real name with an empty
string (which is not handled), so you are a bad guy :)

The current kopete appears to behave correctly. You only need a Nick and a server to connect to for an irc account, kopete insures both are present. Unless the behavior that the bug reporter is seeing is specific to a particular IRC server, if so please supply more information, otherwise i think this bug should be closed.

From the IRC RFC. IRC Servers doesn't need real name. I close this bug.
