Description Janet 2005-04-19 11:16:13 UTC
Version: 4.4 (using KDE 3.4.0, Debian Package 4:3.4.0-0pre3 (3.1))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-8)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.11-kanotix-7

In KDE 3.3.x there was an "Enconding" menu item in the View menu, so one could temporarily change the encoding to view a text correctly. Now this item has been moved to "Extras". It took some time to find it there and I wouldn't expect it there for it belongs to "View". I want to *view* the text in another enconding.

No, encoding has nothing to do with view, it alters the file content in most cases, for example, just open a normal ascii file, set encoding to utf-16 and save, file changes, that is not a action which should be in "view", as all view actions don't alter the content, they only alter the displaying stuff.
