I have embarrased myself contacting OKI support stating their ppd was broken for the C5400 printer.
It wasn't :-O

Background:

If you install a certain printer via "kcmshell printers" you get the option to select a driver - either from the lists displayed or from a "custom" ppd. I downloaded the correct one from OKI website and installed it.
Everything works as expected, no matter with which network protocol I access the printer.

The issue I had was specifically about selecting another paper tray.

Here's the bug and how to reproduce it:

Do as above but don't use a custom ppd but use "generic postcript" for a driver.

Close the printer admin dialog and open it again.

Select the printer with LMB and click the Properties tab. In the box with icons on the left hand, select driver

Click change and install the driver ppd you downloaded.

Print a page from any program using the kde printing system and open the options dialog available.

The tabs and the options available _differs_ from the options that appear if the driver was installed when installing the printer fresh.


In short:
If a ppd driver is selected for an already installed printer instead of at the initial printer install, the options available from the ppd don't make it all the way to the user.
