Description rob welch 2005-04-10 21:46:02 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.0)
Installed from: Debian stable Packages
OS: Linux

Screens are wider than they are tall. I do a lot of word processing from digital recordings. I would like to be able to rotate a window (specifically xmms or realplayer) so that I can place the StarOffice document on the page and a tall skinny realplayer window next to it. I don't want to make the windows shorter by stacking them and making my view "shorter" when there is ample room to the side of the other window to rotate the realplayer window. I realize that it would make the text sideways also, thus the lack of demand for this to this point. However, when listening to a file no text is needed but it is nice to be able to slide the progress bar to advance in the file.

I have no idea if that's possible.

Seli: COMPOSITE, maybe?
Comment 2 Thomas Lübking 2005-04-10 23:04:03 UTC
rotation (xform) i horrible slow on the xrender implementations i've tested so far (nVidia, falling back to sw?) and i'd say it cannot happen in realtime, so probably not w/o an openGL xserver... :(
on top of it i'm not sure about the side effects, as this will make necessary an event processing transformation as well

Needs input transformation support in X server.
Comment 4 lucas 2008-09-04 17:21:51 UTC
Can kind of be done now with compositing. Someone needs to check to see how Compiz does it.
Comment 5 lucas 2008-09-11 15:30:24 UTC
It looks like the fake input redirection used by Compiz doesn't work with all applications so no go there.
