Description Mike Valstar 2005-03-25 07:03:35 UTC
Version: 0.7.1 (using KDE KDE 3.4.0)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux

ok so here is the situation, I have a lot of computers and i keep alot of information in CVS/Subversion directories. Digikam is working great, when i load up the image dir on a new computer all the images are there the albums are there and the tags are there, but i seem to loose my collections (i like to view->sort by collection). Now i would assume that because the albums that i placed in one of the default collections still had their collection properly rendered onn the new macine but the others did not that the collection names are stored in the db file.

sooooo.... here is my request, I would like to have one of the following (either would work)

1. Have the collection list used by digikam stored 100% in the database (but i'm sure this might suck for backwards compatibility so you will probly like #2)

2. Have the collections list (re-)populate if and when a new database file is loaded with digikam. possibly not have it delete any that you already have on the system but add any that are missing from the list.

If you could do that it would be awesome. thank you for your time.

_For a first workaround_

You can find the collections in your digikam configuration
~/.kde/share/config/digikamrc

[Album Settings]
Album Collections=add_your_collections_here

Yes and this leads to a real bug
I _have_ the collections where you say, but they don't show in digikam :-(
in fact, I have many times lost my collections :-(

NB: I when from digikam 0.7.4 to 0.8 and back to 0.7.4 when I notice that exifs where lost
Comment 3 Tom Albers 2005-12-17 14:16:07 UTC
You can not go back from 0.8 back to 0.7.4 without losing data. The underlying database get conververted when doing an upgrade to 0.8, when downgrading modification made in the 0.8 digiKam gets lost obviously.

Since collections are going away in next release of digiKam (0.10) I am closing this file.
