For several years I used MS Outlook (not express) and then transitioned to Mozilla. In these applications a message could be opened in a full message window and then the messages in the list or thread could be paged through without returning to the message list. This basic functionality is missing in KMail, which seems unusual for me. Would this not be one of the first features incorporated? I would like to stay with KMail for the PIM functions similar to Outlook, but this is a critical feature for the way I must use my e-mail in reading hundreds of technical mails from professional e-mail lists per week.

I have checked the KMail list and no plugins seem to be available to fix this apparently common complaint.

I would like the ability to navigate either with a toolbar button, or with a keystroke, but if I had to pick only one I would pick a keystroke.

I would like the ability to:

Why would you like < and >? You have to press two keys to get >, i.e. SHIFT+<. Would it not make more sense to use the left/right arrows to get to the next message, as if you would navigate in the header-list? . and , would then be available for next/previous unread. The latter two are close to the cursor-keys, so there would not be too much hand movement and one could still navigate with just one hand.
As there are very few icons in the message-window toolbar, I would also suggest to put buttons there, at least for next/previous message.

Merge to older wishlist item. Please re-vote there. I guess if implemented the most logical would be to use the existing key bindings.
