Description ieure 2005-02-28 22:17:24 UTC
Version: 0.9.2 (using KDE 3.3.2, (3.1))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-8)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.10-1-686

I have a Jabber account on unstable.nl. Kopete isn't able to browse it's services. When I click the Query Server button in the Services window, I get an error dialog which says:

"Unable to retrieve the list of services."

I tried with Psi, and it's able to browse the services fine.

i confirm this problem with the amessage.info server but not with jabber.org
Comment 2 Martin Zbořil 2005-03-21 21:47:25 UTC
i have same problem after server upgrade of njs.netlab.cz
psi gaim and anithing works fine
Comment 3 Sander Devrieze 2005-05-08 18:39:29 UTC
unstable.nl and njs.netlab.cz are running ejabberd. This server do not support the old depreciated browse protocol. Instead, it only supports the new disco protocol ( http://www.jabber.org/jeps/jep-0030.html ). If you want to test against other disco-only servers you can use the ejabberd servers list at http://ejabberd.jabber.ru/servers Probably none will work with Kopete... :-(

Amessage.info seems to support the browse protocol only for some services.

So my guess is: Kopete do still only supports the old browse method. As Service Discovery is a key protocol in the Jabber network, I think this is a thing that should be fixed in the next version. Another reason could be, that the ejabberd team can't suggest Kopete until this (and maybe others?) issue is fixed.

Kopete indeed does not support disco yet. I'll get to it as soon as I'm done with the bugs. :)

I have the same problems with the Jive (http://www.jivesoftware.org/messenger/) Jabber server I think.
Disco is really needed for service discovery.

*BASIC* disco support is in the dev-0.12 branch
It works fine to register to gateway

Not sure which server it uses, but kopete included with kde 3.5.1 has problems with service discovery on jabber.autocom.pl.

Update: checked - server uses custom version of ejabberd

what is the status of this bug ? is it still valid with kopete of kde 3.5.7 ?
Comment 11 Will Stephenson 2007-11-14 15:27:08 UTC
Yes, still present.
Comment 12 Christoph Cullmann 2024-09-18 18:27:11 UTC
Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained.

Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
