There's a reason that both the Composite extension and kompmgr are marked as experimental, and have to be explicitly enabled. And if X crashes, then it's X bug, please report the problem to them. Try to start XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 kopete and please drop me a mail if it fixes the problem No, it doesn't work too :( just to make sure you passed the proper string: kopete should no more go translucent on this call I continue being translucent on this call :/ sorry, only gtk1 apps stop falling translucent with this setting. i just hoped it'd work, as it fixes X crashes caused by qt-designer what exactly would happen if you click the read button and what kind of balloon is that? (you may mail me some screenshots :), valid mail address from baghira.sf.net) does the crash only occur if you run kompmgr or also if just the Composite extension is enabled? (try "dcop kwin default stopKompmgr" - don't kill the process) If I click the read button, the chat window should appear allowing me to ... chat :) Screenshot of the balloon : http://pinaraf.robertlan.eu.org/kopete.png If kompmgr is not running (but Composite is enabled), it works (sorry, it rocks :) *** Bug 100986 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 102490 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** I also have this problem. I tried to disable the baloon on new messages but it's still crashing when I click on the Kopete "logo" in the panel to see the message (normaly, it opens a chat window). This problem seems to occur only with Kopete... I disabled the message queue feature, and managed to get by this bug, and kopete is still usable.
